Both Motorola and Lenovo are expected to announce Android devices powered by Intel Medfield chips at next week’s Mobile World Congress.
First disclosed all the way back in December 2008, the Intel processor has been making some noise lately with terrific benchmark scores.
Motorola is reportedly set to unveil a Medfield smartphone that runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and features a camera with 15-frame-per-second burst capture. Based on the first images of the handset, we also can surmise that Moto is ready to give us a refreshed custom interface as well.
Lenovo, for its part, should provide new details for the K800 smartphone and a K2110 tablet. Both are expected to run Android 4.0 and feature some of that signature Lenovo skin that graces existing models.
The 4.5-inch handset made its first public appearance back in January at CES when it was announced for China’s Unicom network. At the time it was listed with a second-quarter release date so perhaps Mobile World Congress will yield more specific details.
Although we’ve yet to see Lenovo make a splash in the U.S. smartphone market, occasionally you can find one of the company’s tablets at your local office supply superstore. A new chipset coupled with a hot new platform could be a great opportunity for Lenovo to buddy up with a stateside carrier.
