LG to drop new ICS phones at Mobile World Congress

The lack of many phones running Android Ice Cream Sandwich has left a sour taste in the mouths of Android fans everywhere. Hopefully LG’s three new L-Style handsets will sweeten the situation at Mobile World Congress very soon.

According to LG’s Korean press site, the company plans to unveil a trio of smartphones at Mobile World Congress next week. Two of the three handsets will run Google’s latest version of its Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich. Called the Optimus L7, Optimus L5, and Optimus L3, only the L7 and L5 will boast ICS. As top-tier phones, the Optimus L7 and Optimus L5 will also sport the largest screens in the L-Style lineup, 4.3 inches and 4 inches respectfully.

LG expects the Optimus L3 to be the line’s entry-level device, equipped with a tiny 3.2-inch screen and outdated Android Gingerbread software. Still, as the press site asserts, the phone will be more compact and pocket-friendly than its larger siblings.

LG also touts that all three L-Style line devices will feature what it calls “Floating Mass Technology.” No, they won’t create anti-gravity fields or black holes. This apparently is an industrial design made to emphasize each phone’s rectangular shape and thinness. Of course this is a direct translation from Korean courtesy of Google Translate, so who knows if the marketing slogan is accurate.
