Marvel has unveiled an extended version of the trailer for the next Avengers film, which shows the team having a little fun before the danger creeps in.
The initial trailer for released last week, started with Ultron threatening the Avengers and all of humanity with annihilation. But the full trailer unveiled on Tuesday begins on a much lighter note.
We see the Avengers hanging around at Tony Stark’s place as Thor puts his hammer on a coffee table. Hawkeye makes light of and mangles Odin’s proclamation that “whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.” He thinks the whole idea that only Thor can lift the hammer is a trick.
Never one to resist a challenge, Stark gets up and asks Thor: “If I lift it, do I get to rule Asgard.” Stark then attempts to pick up the hammer unaided by any of his Iron Man tricks. He then tries again wearing an Iron Man glove, but fails. Even with the aid of his friend Rhodey, aka War Machine, Stark can’t move the hammer.

Next up is Captain America, who would certainly be considered a worthy hero. But even in Cap’s attempt, the hammer proves stubborn. Bruce Banner invites the Black Widow to give it a shot, but she declines by saying “that’s not a question I need answered.”
After Stark proposes a theory that the hammer responds to Thor’s fingerprints, the God of Thunder says he has a simpler theory: “You’re all not worthy.”
The party then comes to an abrupt halt as a loud screeching noise fills the air. We see Ultron enter the room telling the Avengers: “How could you be worthy? You’re all puppets, tangled in strings.” From there, the trailer continues with virtually the same scenes revealed in last week’s version.
Directed by Joss Whedon, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is the sequel to 2012’s popular and profitable “Avengers” film. Based on the trailer and various reports, the new movie will pit the Avengers against Ultron, a highly intelligent robot who sees humanity as imperfect and therefore deserving of destruction.
In Marvel’s comic book universe, Ultron is created by Hank Pym, aka Ant Man, who is a founding member of the Avengers. But in the movie universe, Ultron will reportedly be a creation of Tony Stark, and one that clearly backfires.
“Avengers: Age of Ultron” is due to to hit theaters in May of 2015.
