The Internet was built for procrastinators, which I believe describes all of us. It is all too easy to go down a wormhole where you follow one link to the next, only to resurface a hour or more later with that pile of work you were avoiding still sitting there.
If you, like the rest of us, need help reining in your Internet wanderings, the website Take a five can help. With it, you can open a tab that will close after a predetermined time. You can select a tab that will close after 2, 5 or 10 minutes, or you can set a custom time.
After making your selection, Take a five opens a new tab with a grid of suggested sites and and keeps open the current tab with a timer that you can monitor from the tab header. When time is up, the new tab closes and presumably you will return to your work for the day.
Take a five keeps you honest. Once you open a tab with Take a five, you can’t close the tab with the timer without also closing the new tab the site opened for you.
