The Internet. Digital photography. Social media. Mobile. Once every few years, technology changes media so profoundly that the very people who create the words and videos that you read and watch must stop to completely reconsider everything we know about how to tell a story.
And now, virtual reality. Virtual reality video, whether you watch it on a your phone with the simple-but-genius Google Cardboard or on a finished headset like Samsung Gear VR or still-developer-only Oculus Rift , can take you to places and recreate experiences you may never be able to have in real life. That’s why we’ve partnered with im360 to create the first VR report of its kind.
We’re taking you — right now, today — straight to the E3 show floor. We’re lucky enough to get to travel to amazing technology spectacles like this one, and we want to show you, through a true virtual experience, what it’s like to attend the Electronic Entertainment Expo, the high-powered gaming conference that’s only open to industry insiders.
You do not want to miss this. Tomorrow Daily hosts Ashley Esqueda and Khail Anonymous will take you straight to the most interesting spots on the E3 show floor. To watch in true VR, you’ll need Google Cardboard or Samsung Gear VR — there are instructions at the bottom of this article — and you can watch both via iOS and Android.
But even if you don’t own a VR headset, you can interact with this video. Just click and drag the video within the player above to experience a 360-degree, moving E3 show floor experience. Or, from your mobile device install the im360 app (links below), then click this link to pan around the video using your finger.
In just over two minutes, we’ll take you to visit the games on display at the Xbox booth, see the Sony Project Morpheus demo room, and you’ll even get to peer straight inside the Forza 6 driving simulator.
Giant thanks to our partners at im360 for making this production possible, and we’re looking forward to producing much more VR video in the months to come. Let us know what you’d like us to capture in the future. And buckle up for the ride.
