Feedly has become a powerful RSS feed management tool, surpassing its former role as just a Google Reader replacement. Whether you’re using it to stay on top of news about specific topics, or as a tool for spotting trends across the Web, you may want to sort the posts by popularity.

This option is not currently offered by Feedly, but you can add it with the help of an extension for Chrome. Here’s how:

Start by installing Sortly for your Chrome Web browser. Then, open Feedly in a new tab so the extension will be loaded and ready to use.

This extension works best if your view style is set to title only. You’ll need to scroll to the bottom of the feed so Sortly can see all of the posts (since Feedly doesn’t preload them) before organizing. If one of your categories has more than 1,000 unread articles, try working with individual site feeds so you can quickly load the list.

Finally, click the Sortly button that appears to left of the Mark as Read button. All posts will be ordered by the number of saves each has.

There’s one caveat to using this extension: you won’t be able to use the keyboard shortcuts to navigate through your feed because the posts are no longer in their chronological order.
