It’s not every day you see a famous competitive shooter dressed as a Marvel superhero.
But in the video “Real-life bullet-proof Captain America shield,” host and pro shooter Jerry Miculek dresses as Captain America himself and tests the round shield the Avenger would never enter a battle without.
“We have created the first functional version of his mighty shield,” Miculek says in the video, posted Saturday.

Since Miculek and his team didn’t have any Vibranium Steel (an alien metal used to make the shield in the comics), they came up with the next best real-world equivalent, solid titanium. The shield is made to the proper size and weight of 12 pounds (5.4 kilograms), “just like in the comics,” Miculek says.
Using a M1911 semi-automatic, recoil-operated pistol, Miculek shoots at the titanium shield in rapid fire to see if the Captain America-inspired prop can withstand the bullets. Of course, to be on the safe side, a ballistics dummy, and not a real human, is standing behind Captain America’s shield.
After firing eight rounds of .45 caliber bullets, the verdict is that the shield does its job protecting the dummy. “Captain America would be proud of this shield,” Miculek concludes.
Miculek also tests to see if throwing Captain America’s shield can decapitate someone. Yet again, Miculek uses the dummy that has “an exact duplicate of the human body, has all the organs, consistency”as his test subject. In the video, the poor dummy doesn’t have a chance at survival.
This isn’t the first geeky gun experiment by Miculek. In previous videos, Miculek has fired real-life versions of Han Solo’s blaster, the Terminator’s M1887 shotgun and the SPAS-12 Shotgun from “Jurassic World” — all while dressed in character costumes.
