Amazing.
From major upsets leading to millions of busted brackets online, to Villanova’s improbable shot at the buzzer to beat North Carolina 77-74 for the national title, this was possibly the craziest NCAA basketball tournament ever.
Who didn’t think that Monday’s title game, arguably the greatest college basketball game ever, was headed to overtime? When Carolina’s Marcus Paige hit an off-balance three-pointer to tie the game at 74-74 with less than five seconds left, we were expecting bonus basketball.
Then Villanova’s Kris Jenkins sank a deep three-pointer of his own as time expired, giving the Wildcats the win and his school its first national title in 31 years.
Who cares that the vast majority of Americans didn’t pick Villanova to win it all. Even Microsoft’s Bing Predicts somehow picked the loser of the championship — twice. We were all winners in the end after being treated to such an incredible game.
March was maddening, but the first full week of April so far for hoops fans has been, well, amazing.
