Mariachi ‘Game of Thrones’ theme just makes sense

In an era of inclusiveness, HBO’s take on “Game of Thrones” can sometimes seem awfully, well…white. Not just white, but like so many fantasy worlds, it seems pulled straight out of the mind of an unabashed anglophile. This is a little odd when you consider that “A Song of Ice and Fire” author George R.R. Martin is a longtime resident of New Mexico, one of the more diverse American states with a majority Hispanic/Latino population.

Fortunately, in the spirit of a more multicultural Westeros, none other than Tyrion Lanister himself, Peter Dinklage, pointed us to the below mesmerizing mariachi rendition of the show’s theme on his Facebook page Tuesday.

The video comes via Mitu, a kind of Buzzfeed-like site of viral videos and other stuff aimed at Latinos living in the US. Now the wait continues for a reggae rendition of the theme.

Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” arrives in April.
