The Carrot app people have returned with their ridiculous talking robot with Carrot Weather, joining previous efforts that include Carrot Alarm, Carrot Fit and Carrot To-Do. The robot voice in Carrot Weather will greet you with its favorite term of affection, meatbag, while delivering an accurate if snarky forecast. With more than 2,000 lines of dialogue and more than 100 weather animations for various weather conditions, Carrot Weather is an even more entertaining way to check the forecast than Funny Or Die Weather.
After launching the app and allowing it to know your location, Carrot Weather will display the current conditions, including the current temperature, the temp it feels like and wind speed and direction. A small panel hovers at the bottom of the screen with more information. Swipe sideways to rotate this panel through a short-term forecast (for the next hour), a 24-hour forecast, and a 7-day forecast. Swipe up for a detailed forecast.
You can add locations via the gear icon in the upper-right corner. There are 21 secret locations to uncover. I’ve uncovered four so far: Apple R&D Labs, Lars Homestead on Tatooine, The Ripper’s First Killsite, and The Robopocalypse, which Carrot Weather seems to think will occur in a little less than eight years in New York City. To unlock Apple R&D Labs location, for example, search for Cupertino, Calif.
Carrot Weather features slick animations and graphics and plenty of snark, but behind all of this sizzle is some steak. The app is powered by Forecast.io, the weather service behind the popular Dark Sky app.
In addition, Carrot Weather includes a Notification Center widget. One feature it lacks is a radar map. For the best weather radar in an app that I’ve found, check out Storm by Weather Underground.
Carrot Weather is a universal iOS app that is currently selling at a discount of $2.99, down from its regular $3.99 price. It’s currently £2.29 in the UK and AU$3.79 in Australia.
