Facebook already has an app for nearly everything, and in this past week it’s released one dedicated to emerging smartphone markets. Called Facebook Lite, this free, slimmed-down app takes up just 252KB of space on your phone, perfect for lower-end Android models with limited storage.

It’s also designed to run on 2G networks and claims to be efficient with data, yet can still fetch photos and instant messages with a built-in Facebook Messenger inbox. You can share status updates and photos and interact with Facebook like you would on the Web.
The app launched quietly over the weekend in Bangladesh, Vietnam, Nigeria, Nepal, South Africa, Sudan, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. It’s not available in the US, but there are already APKs online that you can download if you want to try it out for yourself. According to Facebook, the app is still being tested, though it is available via Google Play if you’re in a country where it’s supported.
