Suss out ‘Sherlock’ season 4 clues shared from the set

With filming for “Sherlock” season 4 well under way, it was inevitable the cast and crew might share a few behind-the-scenes moments taking place at the detective’s home base of 221B Baker Street in London.

As per usual, the season will feature three episodes of Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and his partner in crime sleuthing, Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman).

“Ghosts of the past are rising in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson bringing adventure, romance and terror in their wake,” co-creators, writers and executive producers Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss told the BBC. “This is the story we’ve been telling from the beginning. A story about to reach its climax…”

What that climax might involve is anyone’s guess. But at the end of season 3, fans were left wondering if it was possible Sherlock’s nemesis Jim Moriarty, played by Andrew Scott, had faked his own death.

“I can’t wait for everyone to see season 4. But you will have to wait…though not for long. And it will be worth it,” Cumberbatch told the BBC.

Until the fateful day arrives, fans can still get a glimpse of props and more from an onslaught of tweets. But you might need a magnifying glass out to suss out any real clues.

On April 11, Gatiss (who co-created the series and stars as Sherlock’s older brother Mycroft) tweeted photos of Cumberbatch as Sherlock and Freeman as Watson. And on Monday, “Sherlock” production designer Arwel Wyn Jones posted photos from the set of new “Sherlock” director Rachel Talalay, who also directed “Doctor Who.”

In previous weeks, Jones has tweeted photos including the skull, items on Sherlock’s desk, the front door to the flat on 221B Baker Street, script cover pages and a mysterious hand. Actress Louise Brealey, who plays Molly Hooper, also posted a cryptic photo of a creepy doll with the caption, “First photo of Molly’s new look for Series IV. Do we need hair extensions.”

While these photos aren’t exactly mind-blowing spoilers, fans can at least get a taste of what’s to come in “Sherlock” season 4 one cryptic photo at a time. An air date for season 4 has yet to be announced.
