While “Star Wars: Episode VIII” won’t open in theaters until December 15, 2017, we’re already getting a few clues from the movie’s director and actors on social media.
We already know that filming has begun on the new Star Wars movie after Director Rian Johnson shared a brief new scene featuring Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Rey (Daisy Ridley).
“Star Wars: Episode VIII” began principal photography at Pinewood Studios in London on Monday, and actors including Hamill and Carrie Fisher have returned to the set, with their beloved pets.
On February 19, Fisher tweeted an emoji-laden message with a photo of her lovable dog Gary lounging on her chair.

On Wednesday, Hamill tweeted the message, “Exclusive 1st look #EP8-Exotic Alien Creature to terrorize… oh no wait-that’s just my daughter’s dog #Whoops #MyBad” alongside a photo of the family pet.
Johnson isn’t tweeting photos of his dog, but his posts about production on the new Star Wars film are quite entertaining without any animals in them.
“Day one in the can!” Johnson tweeted on February 15. “Meaning we finished, not that we filmed it in a toilet. Though I’m not saying we didn’t. Ok I should stop typing now.”
Johnson also has a knack for telling C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels to shush about the movie’s script details on Twitter.
