Can’t make it to Mother’s Day? Groupon will send a ‘kid’ in your place

They say a mother’s love is priceless, but $25,000 certainly doesn’t hurt.

With families spread out all over the world these days, not everyone is able to make it home to visit their moms on Mother’s Day. Groupon recognized this and came up with a somewhat hilarious way to give these mothers the next best thing to seeing their offspring walking through the door on Sunday — by sending a surrogate “child” to fill in.

Yep, really.

Groupon released a new deal on Thursday called “A Mother’s Love is Priceless” that will send a Groupon employee to your mom to serve as a surrogate child and provide 16 hours of compliments, housework and cooking. The deal includes airfare to send the employee anywhere in the continental United States, a $5,000 shopping spree at your mom’s favorite local shops, stretch limo rental, a family photo and a catered in-home family dinner for up to six people.

Groupon has offered offbeat packages before, including a $100 personalized bedtime tuck-in service. The “A Mother’s Love is Priceless” package costs a staggering $25,000, which is arguably a small price to pay for the woman who birthed and raised you.

Nicholas Halliwell, a representative from Groupon’s media-relations team, told CNET Friday that no one had purchased the deal, and then contacted us to clarify that “lots of people have clicked through to purchase, and we’re now in the process of confirming these transactions given the high price point.”

Time is running out, however. Customers have until 8:59 p.m. PT on Friday to click the buy button for dear mom. Or you can save whatever it costs to fly home next time, which will probably cost you way less than $25,000 anyhow.

Update, 2:48 p.m. PT: A Groupon representative said the deal has, in fact, had takers.
