AT&T is bringing its speedy gigabit broadband network to Cupertino, California. Launching on Monday, U-Verse with AT&T GigaPower promises up to 1 gigabit per second connectivity to select consumers and small business, starting at $110 a month.
A gigabit broadband connection is really, really fast: AT&T claims you can download (legally, I presume) 25 songs in less than a second, or grab an HD movie in less than 36 seconds. The launch is sure to please folks clamoring for faster broadband speeds, particularly those who aren’t in areas serviced by Google Fiber. At $70 a month, Google’s broadband offering is cheaper, though you’ll likely have to move to get it: San Jose, Calif., is a potential candidate for Google Fiber, but the current and upcoming Google Fiber cities are still few and far between.
AT&T has expressed plans to bring the U-Verse GigaPower fiber network to at least 21 major metropolitan areas, bolstering the recent rollout in Austin, Texas. The service will set you back $70 a month there, likely because it’s a gigabit-broadband market AT&T shares with Google.
Cupertino residents who will also be able to choose a 300MBps package that starts at $80 a month. You’ll need to pay a bit extra to bundle in the rest of AT&T’s U-Verse services, which include Voice and TV service. If you’re a Cupertino resident looking to speed up your browsing experience, head over to AT&T’s U-Verse site to see if it’s available in your neighborhood.
