Amazon’s free same-day delivery service for its Prime membership customers just expanded to 11 more metro areas, the company said Wednesday, with the service now in 27 total metro areas in the US. The new cities are Charlotte, Cincinnati, Fresno, Louisville, Milwaukee, Nashville, Raleigh, Richmond, Sacramento, Stockton and Tucson. The online retailer also said it’s added more locations in the existing service areas of central New Jersey, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles and San Diego.
The same-day delivery service, which first rolled out in May last year, comes at no additional cost for customers paying $99 annually for an Amazon Prime membership, so long as those same-day orders have a value of at least $35. It’s among a handful of new programs Amazon is developing to speed up deliveries to customers and to convince more people to just shop from home instead of heading out to the store. The company’s fastest delivery service is Prime Now, which offers free two-hour deliveries for Prime customers in over 30 cities worldwide, but Amazon hopes to someday trump that by using delivery drones.
These speedier options, though, do come with less selection. While there are hundreds of millions of items available on Amazon.com, same-day deliveries are available for 1 million or so products, while Prime Now ships out tens of thousands.
