Amazon Dash grocery scanner makes a bolt for the UK

Amazon boosted its UK groceries offering on Thursday with the launch of its Dash scanner in the UK.

The device can be used scan barcodes on products you already have, or take your order by speaking into its microphone. It adds these grocery items to your Amazon basket, then you buy them when you next visit the site. It’s effectively an extension of one-click ordering — a shopping list tool that ensures you don’t forget to buy the things you need.

“We’re all used to trying to remember the contents of the fridge and kitchen cupboard and scribbling down reminders on pieces of paper,” said Ajay Kavan, vice president of AmazonFresh, in a statement. “With Dash, at any given time, customers can keep track of products when they come to mind and scan to reorder groceries and household essentials as soon as they run out.”

It follows the launch of AmazonFresh last month in the UK, which is currently available for customers in 128 London postcodes. AmazonFresh customers can get a Dash initially at no additional charge with their second AmazonFresh order, but that offer lasts only until 28 August.
