Samsung is the latest company to announce some phones ahead of next week’s Mobile World Congress. It’s just lifted the lid on a pair of new Galaxy mobiles: the Galaxy Ace 2 and Galaxy Mini 2.
As the numbers suggest, they’re both sequels to existing handsets, and both will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread. They’re budget models compared to Samsung’s top-tier phones, but they both pack plenty of power for your pound.
The Ace 2 (above left) has the best specs, with a dual-core 800MHz processor, a 3.8-inch, 480×800-pixel screen, and 4GB of internal memory. HSDPA connectivity is on board too, letting you surf and download with minimal delays. There’s a 5-megapixel camera on the back, with a 640×480-pixel videocam on the front.
The Galaxy Mini 2 (above right), meanwhile, which we brought you news of a while back, has a better screen than the original Mini, with the 3.27-inch, 320×480-pixel display being a little more clear without compromising the phone’s tininess.
The battery has also been boosted to a 1,300mAh model, meaning it’ll last for longer, and there’s a 3-megapixel camera on the back. The handset is 11.9mm thick, and has 4GB of storage on board. Like the Ace 2, it’ll also run the Gingerbread version of Android.
Both will also come equipped with Samsung’s Hubs like the Social Hub and Games Hub keeping you connected and entertained respectively. Music Hub lets you access 1.7 million tracks, and ChatON enables instant messaging with your Android-toting pals.
The original Galaxy Ace won’t see the upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich. The Ace 2 doesn’t ship with ICS either, and there’s no word on whether it or the Mini 2 will get it in the future. Samsung also announced the Galaxy Ace Plus recently, which actually has a faster processor than the Ace 2, though a smaller screen.
Both phones will be out in the UK in April, with their no-doubt reasonable pricing still to be announced. For more Mobile World Congress news, head over to mwc.cnet.co.uk.
