Well it’s not September 7 (or is it October 7) yet, so there’s still time for some crazy iPhone 5 fever to spread around the Web. Today’s installment brings a leaked photo reportedly depicting factory workers preparing iPhone 5 screens.
Two unfortunate details exist about this photograph however. The first, is the stunning lack of clarity in its framing. Nowhere in the photo is there anything to suggest that this is even an iPhone, let alone an iPhone 5. The second, and perhaps more gratuitous error is the lack of a source on the part of Cult of Mac.
The article clearly states that the photo was, “alleged to be taken in Wintek’s touchscreen plant, which handles the iPhone 4.” Who alleged this? Cult of Mac does not report an answer.
I suppose if I look close enough I can see that the elongated home button, widely reported to be a feature of the iPhone 5, could be made out, but honestly the photo is at such a low resolution it’s tough to even tell that it’s a smartphone at all.
So we come to the point. Over the next few weeks our blogs and others will not hesitate to report on possible rumors. Many will be sourced from trusted avenues of information. Others, like this photo, will be sketchy at best. I think the spirit of the whole thing is the anticipation. Much like shaking a box on Christmas Eve and telling your brothers what you’re sure is inside, the reveal will be the only way to truly know.
Until then, we can have fun hoping for nifty technological advances, ogling spiffy computer-generated mock-ups, and commenting about the likelihood that our iPhones will ever feature a hardware keyboard. Just remember to keep it all in good fun.
What’s on your iPhone 5 wish list? Let me know in the comments!
