The HTC Rezound might just work in humble old Blighty after all, despite being a mobile aimed squarely at phone buyers in the big ol’ US of A.
An XDA Developers forum member by the name of ‘i rule123’ claims they live in the UK, but having taking delivery of an HTC Rezound from an American eBayer just after Christmas, was able to make the Android-powered mobile work with his T-Mobile SIM card.
When the phone arrived they tried turning off LTE (or long-term evolution — 4G network tech we’re years away from getting in the UK), and found that the phone had options for ‘global mode’ as well as ‘GSM only’ and ‘WCDMA only’.
Mr rule123 was able to get the Rezound to make and receive calls, though receiving texts seems to be beyond the poor mobile.
It’s interesting that a phone never destined to hit the UK seems to work on our networks. The Verge notes the Rezound runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon MSM8660 processor, which is listed with GSM support. That’s the same chip that you’ll find in the HTC Evo 3D, which is out over here.
We wouldn’t recommend UK-based HTC fans rush out and buy a Rezound though — to get the phone working over here (and it doesn’t look like it works perfectly anyway) you’ll need to indulge in a fair bit of tinkering, if forum posts on the subject are anything to go by.
The HTC Rezound is certainly a tempting proposition, with specs that put the extremely slick, UK-based HTC Sensation XE to shame. Like the XE, the Rezound sports a 4.3-inch display, but where British Beats-branded blower manages a 540×960-pixel resolution, the Rezound has a more impressive 720×1,280 display.
The Rezound also sports more RAM and internal storage (16GB compared to the XE’s 4GB) than the Sensation XE, though both come with Beats headphones and feature the same 1.5GHz processor and 8-megapixel camera.
