The Galaxy S4 Mini could not be more leaked if a Samsung flunky just left it in a pub. After hands-on photos, sample images from the camera, and details of when and where it’ll be launched, benchmarks have popped up online apparently confirming its specs.
The screenshots of AnTuTu benchmarks, grabbed by German blog AllAboutSamsung, reveal the S4‘s little brother is packing a dual-core 1.7GHz processor and over 1GB of RAM.
The fact the graphics processor is an Adreno 305 leads us to believe the chip is a Snapdragon 400, because it’s the only Qualcomm range to feature that GPU. A slightly slower 1.4GHz version of the 400 powers the HTC First. While the First has proved about as popular as a fart in a lift, our sister site CNET.com did find it was pretty nippy, blasting past last year’s top phones, such as the HTC One X.
So although the S4 Mini won’t have the quad-core girth of the mighty Galaxy S4, it shouldn’t be quite as disappointing as last year’s S3 Mini.
That said, the benchmarks show a 960×540-pixel resolution with a purported density of 240 pixels per inch, meaning it’s a 4.6-inch screen. That’s hardly any better than the original Galaxy S, and almost half the S4’s wondrous 441ppi.
Other specs apparently confirmed by the benchmarks include an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 2.1-megapixel effort on the front for Full HD video calls. Like the S4, it’ll run on Android 4.2.2, the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system.
The S4 Mini is due to be shown off on 20 June at Samsung’s next London event, possibly along with the Galaxy Ace 3 and Tab 3 10.1 tablet, and maybe the waterproof S4 Active.
