BlackBerry Q5 colourful Qwerty phone hits UK in July

BlackBerry’s colourful Q5 smart phone will be arriving in the UK this summer, British retailer Phones 4U has confirmed.

The high-street phone-flogger says it will be selling the Q5, which runs BlackBerry 10 and has a full Qwerty keyboard, from July.

BlackBerry boss Thorsten Heins unveiled the tiny Q5 earlier today, with the ailing firm saying that it would be heading to “selected markets”, including Europe. That means us, apparently, as Brits will be able to throw down cash in exchange for the new phone in just a few short months.

Heins said the Q5, which has a 3.1-inch touchscreen, would be perfect for people who’ve never owned a laptop or computer. Like its bigger brothers, the BlackBerry Z10 and Q10, the Q5 runs BlackBerry 10, a new operating system designed to do battle with Apple’s iOS, and Google’s Android.

There’s no word on exact pricing for the Q5, but the size of the phone, its name and the fact that it’s headed to developing countries suggests that it’ll be very cheap.

It’s set to come in red, black, white and pink. I’ve asked Phones 4U which UK networks will be offering the Q5, and I’ll let you know if I hear anything more.

If you’re thinking of buying the Q5 simply to access BlackBerry’s BBM messaging service, you might be interested to learn that BBM will be landing on iOS and Android this summer, for free.
