The HTC One ‘Google Edition’ smartphone will be sold in very limited quantities when it surfaces later this summer, or so the always-gabby “people familiar with the matter” have told Pocket Lint.

That means that if you were hoping to get your hands on the ‘Google Edition’ of the popular Android flagship, you’ll have to look hard to find it. According to Pocket Lint’s sources, HTC will release just “around one percent of total sales of the device so far.” And with HTC having announced roughly five million in sales for the HTC One recently, that could mean as few as 50,000 of the HTC One Google Edition phones to go around.
Rumors of an HTC One with stock Android evolved from fanboy dream to confirmed in a matter of only weeks; it stands to reason that we have much to learn about the device.
Much like what Samsung has done with the Galaxy S4 Google Edition, HTC is expected to release a 2013 flagship experience with a vanilla Android build. It will be interesting to see how HTC positions the handset and at what cost.
Samsung’s phone runs a hefty $650 and will work for either AT&T or T-Mobile. Considering the rumored low quantities for the HTC One, I might look for an unlocked GSM model that plays nice with multiple carriers.
When contacted for a comment on the alternate version of the HTC One, HTC declined to offer additional information.
