How is Windows treating you these days? Good? No issues? If your computer seems to be running smoothly, then move along, nothing to see here.

If, on the other hand, it has grown sluggish, obstinate or maybe just a little weird, it might be time for a tune-up. Specifically, it might be time to deploy a system-optimization utility.

Like this one: ending tomorrow, SharewareOnSale has Glary Utilities Pro 5.2 (Win) for free. Regular price: $39.95.

What the heck is Glary Utilities? Only one of the top-rated programs in its class. For proof, look no further than Download.com, where it scored 4.5 stars (out of 5) from CNET’s reviewer and a similar rating from over 260 users. Likewise, if you read the user comments on SharewareOnSale’s deal page, you’ll see lots of gushing praise.

I mention that because, as a general rule, reviewers tend to trash system utilities. And often with good reason: sometimes they seem to do more harm than good.

Glary Utilities Pro promises to fix, speed up, maintain and protect your PC. Among other things, it can find and remove duplicate files, clear the junk from Windows’ Registry, uninstall software and check for spyware.

Once you’ve received your confirmation email, download, install and run the program, then click Activate Now in the lower-left corner. Then click Refresh and type or paste in the username and license code supplied in that email.

The giveaway nets you a lifetime license for a single PC, the only caveats being that you get neither free updates nor free support. I have no problem with that. Remember, Glarysoft hopes to count you among its paying customers someday.

However, if you’re a computer novice, you might want to steer clear. You just never know when a system utility will cause a problem instead of solving it, and without a support lifeline, that could spell trouble.

If you’ve used Glary Utilities before, share your own feedback in the comments. And if you’ve tried perennial freebie fave CCleaner as well, let everyone know how this compares.

Bonus deal: Ooma is widely regarded as one of the best — if not the best — landline phone replacements, though the cost of entry is a little steep. Not today: Meh has the refurbished Ooma Telo Classic for $65, plus $5 for shipping. That’s the lowest price I’ve seen on the hardware, and you also get a wireless adapter that eliminates the need to run Ethernet cable to wherever you want to put the box. Whether or not you spring for the $10 per month Premier add-on, the Telo is awesome. I’ve had one for years, and it just works. Love it.
