Quick tip: Get video on demand with Twitch for Android

Twitch is now offering video-on-demand (VOD) service to users of their mobile apps. However, if you’re using the Android version, you actually need to do more than just receive an update from the Google Play store.

The Official Twitch Blog notes that the company has addressed security vulnerabilities in their mobile app. As a result, if you’d like to see VOD while using Android, you’ll have to uninstall your current app (v. 3.2.3) and download a different version (v. 4.0) from the Google Play store. This updated app only works on Android 4.1+, so if you’re using an older Android version, you’ll want to hang onto your current copy of the Twitch app.

In order to watch VODs, you can:

  • View the Activity Feed for a broadcaster, or
  • Select an offline channel (which will load recent activity)

VOD will work for Twitch Partners, as well as broadcasts that have HLS-enabled videos (HTTP Live Stream). Which channels will you watch?
