How to get an Amazon Prime membership for $73 this weekend

Amazon is celebrating its recent success at the Golden Globes with a discount on its Prime service the company announced on Thursday.

Amazon Prime provides members with free two-day shipping on most items, along with access to the company’s Prime video and music catalog, discounts on video games and other miscellaneous services.

Starting Friday, January 15 at 9 p.m. PST through Sunday, January 17 at 11:59 p.m. PST new Amazon Prime subscribers can sign up for just $73, a discount of $26 from the regular price of $99 per year.

The number isn’t something Amazon pulled out of thin air, it’s a nod to the Golden Globes’ 73rd year, where the company’s show “Mozart in the Jungle” earned two awards.

If you’ve been on the fence about signing up for Prime, this weekend is as good a time as any to take the plunge. Rick Broida did a fantastic job explaining why Prime is worth $99 back when the price increased, and it still stands.

Updated January 15 1at 9:50 a.m. PT: Amazon has disabled the ability to gift a Prime membership at the promotional rate. Unfortunately, unless someone is able to figure out another workaround, it appears the deal is only valid for new members. However, if you do come across another method please leave a comment below!
