Binge-watchers, come one come all.
Netflix is hosting a press event at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Wednesday. Reed Hastings, chief executive of the streaming video service, will show off what the company has in store for the year ahead.
The keynote starts at 8:30 a.m. PST, and we’ll be bringing you all the news and commentary from the event. I’ll be live-blogging along with CNET Senior Editor Rich Trenholm. CNET’s James Martin will provide photography from the event.
The Los Gatos, California, company has become synonymous with online TV and movie streaming. Netflix has already upended the TV industry with its stable of original shows, including the political thriller “House of Cards” and Marvel detective noir “Jessica Jones”. But the company has similar ambitions for rattling the movie industry, with a growing number of original feature-length films.
The company is also looking to blaze trails offscreen. In August, the company said it would allow new parents unlimited paternity leave for up to a year after a child is born.
As the company has grown, so has competition. Amazon and Hulu are fierce rivals, and Google is reportedly readying a push into premium content with its new subscription service, YouTube Red.
