Sky and HBO teaming up to make next Sopranos or Game of Thrones

Sky is to team up with HBO to make the next Sopranos or Game of Thrones. The British and US broadcasters will jointly fund prospective future hits, as well as locking in HBO shows to Sky Atlantic for another six years.

As well as unveiling a new EPG, Sky revealed today it will continue to hoard HBO’s prestigious programmes until 2020 — good news for people with a dish on the side of their house, but less so for rivals Virgin Media, Netflix and Lovefilm.

This year Sky Atlantic will show off current HBO shows like Girls, Game of Thrones in April, and Martin Scorsese’s Boardwalk Empire later in the year; as well as new programmes such as Looking and serial killer thriller True Detective, on next month and starring Hollywood heavyweights Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

Sky has also revamped its interface. Sky reckons the new-look EPG, pictured above, is the biggest change since it was launched with digital TV back in 1998. The new home page adds Catch Up TV, TV Box Sets, Sky+ Planner and Sky Store and more to the live TV Guide, so you can see all your viewing options in one place.

New catch-up services are also added this week for Dave, Gold, Watch and Alibi, so you can watch want you missed.
