Regular words are so boring. Isn’t everything a heck of a lot better when it’s written in emoji?
An art and technology studio in Oakland, Calif., called Disk Cactus has launched a Kickstarter campaign for the Emoji Keyboard, a product that combines hardware and software to turn your Mac’s keyboard into an emoji typing machine. The keyboard itself is a silicone cover that you put right over your Mac’s keyboard. After you click the Emoji button (which sits over the caps lock), you’re in emoji mode and can type emoji with the simple press of a button.

There are over 150 emoji available at your disposal, and you can type them by using a combination of the keyboard and the shift, control and option keys on your Mac. Given all the possible combinations, there’s likely a bit of a learning curve, but Disk Cactus will throw in a hieroglyphic manual to those who back at certain levels.
Backers of the Emoji Keyboard will get a silicone keyboard cover and the “magic software” that makes it all work. Early birds can get a keyboard cover and software for as little as $15 (full retail is set at $20), or if you’d like a guidebook to show you all the emoji keyboard combinations, that’ll set you back $35. The keyboard fits all MacBook Pro and Air devices from 2010 onward, as well as Apple Wireless Keyboards dating back to 2007.
The campaign has so far raised a little over $3,100 toward its $20,000 goal with 27 days left in the campaign, so if you’re an emoji enthusiast looking to take your obsession to the next level, check it out. Because those poop symbols aren’t going to type themselves.
