Nexus Imprint, as it’s properly called, is the fingerprint scanner on the back of Google’s latest smartphones, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.
If you skipped fingerprint setup the first time you powered up the device, or need to add another finger or two to your Nexus, you can do so at anytime.
Registering your fingerprint with Nexus Imprint takes just a few seconds. After you’re done, you can unlock the phone or use your fingerprint to pay for stuff in the Play store instead of having to enter your password.
Here’s how to set up or add more fingers to Nexus Imprint:
- Launch the Settings app.
- Tap on Security.
- Select Nexus Imprint.
- Tap on Add fingerprint.
If you’re adding your first fingerprint, you’ll be asked to set up a backup pattern or PIN for the off chance the sensor can’t read your finger.
You’ll need to place your finger on the sensor, then lift it, and put it back a few times during the registration process. Be sure to slightly adjust its positioning in order for the sensor to map out as much of your fingerprint as possible.
Once you’re done, you can either add another or close settings. The next time you want to unlock your phone, you only need to place your finger on the sensor.
