ZTE Grand X has dual

ZTE is a pretty unknown brand in these parts — a brand X, if you will. But brand X just became Grand X, as the Chinese company announces the ZTE Grand X, a 4.3-inch, Android-powered dual-core smart phone.

The Grand X is powered by a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core chipset. The powerful Tegra 2 chip lets you play souped-up games that you can download from the Tegra Zone, an app store for games that require a faster processor to keep up with the graphics and gameplay.

The phone boasts a 4.3-inch screen displaying a grand total of 16 million colours. The screen is made by Sharp and has a resolution of 960×540. Movies and TV are complemented by Dolby Mobile Sound audio.

Inside is Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and ZTE hasn’t monkeyed too much with the look and feel of the software. New features include Facetones, which shows your friends’ latest social media updates and photos when they call you. Look out for our preview to find out more about the Grand X’s changes to Android.

Other features include a 5-megapixel camera and 4GB of storage. Connection options include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and DLNA to connect to your telly or Blu-ray player.

The Grand X is on sale at Phones 4U and Virgin Media from the beginning of August. A Grand don’t come for free — in fact it’s £190 on Virgin Media pay as you go.

We’re handling the phone as you read this, so look out for our preview and first impressions any minute.
