BEIJING, China — The design of Xiaomi’s latest Mi 4 will seem very familiar to some. The company appears to have borrowed from the Apple playbook again — the phone looks very much like the iPhone, and the Mi 4 even comes in a white version similar to Apple’s smartphone. This isn’t the first time, either. We last saw the Mi Pad, which resembled the iPad Mini with the iPhone 5C’s colorful plastic shell.
That said, the phone comes with impressive hardware — it packs a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, and has 3GB of RAM, 16/64GB of onboard storage. The phone will also be 4G enabled.
Unlike the earlier rumors of a 5.5-inch QHD (2,560×1,440-pixel) display, the Mi 4 comes with a 5-inch full-HD display with a 1,920×1,080-pixel resolution instead. One thing Xiaomi’s very proud of is the phone’s large 3,080mAh battery, and is able to quickly charge from 0 to 60 percent in an hour.
The smartphone is powered by Android, which runs Xiaomi’s own MIUI skin on top. The company also announced that MIUI v6 will be released on August 16, so it’s likely the phone will come running the new version.
The Mi 4 will like debut in China first for 1,999RMB ($322, £188, AU$343) for the 16GB model and 2,499RMB for the 64GB version, and will probably be available in Hong Kong and Taiwan soon after. The phone should also be headed to international markets such as Singapore, Malaysia and India.
Alternatively, for those who are hankering after a Chinese-made superphone, you may want to take a look at the Oppo Find 7 and OnePlus One instead.
