Never far from the limelight, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has popped up in an interview with a New Domain (via The Verge). And the man loves Microsoft’s Windows Phone.
During the seven minute pow-wow, Woz waxes lyrical over the mobile operating system, repeatedly complimenting it on its looks, calling it “more intuitive and beautiful” than Android. He even said iOS feels “more awkward in comparison,” and that with Windows Phone, it feels more like you’re “with a friend not a tool.” High praise indeed.
“Just for looks and beauty, I definitely… favoured the Windows 7 phone over Android,” Wozniak said. (The sound quality is a little scratchy, but you can listen for yourself here.) But it wasn’t just the appearance that bowled him over — it’s how helpful it is too.
On Android, Woz said: “A lot of it is based upon kind of knowing where to go… you wind up with a kind of a complicated life… whereas the Windows Phone has little indications… so you can find out what you might want to do next.”
He went as far as to say he was actually taken aback by how Windows Phone looked. “I’m shocked… I haven’t seen anything yet that’s more beautiful than other platforms.” And he even thought the same apps looked better on Windows Phone. “Every screen is much more beautiful than the same apps on Android or iPhone.”
Wozniak certainly knows what he’s talking about. He co-founded Apple, and admitted in the interview to having about 10 phones in regular rotation. (He carries two iPhone 4S handsets for when one battery dies.)
While he did say iOS feels more awkward, the iPhone is still his weapon of choice because of the app selection. In the comments, he elaborated, saying: “In my opinion, [Windows Phone] sets the mark for user interface. I would recommend it over my Android phones given that it doesn’t yet have the breadth of apps.” He also said it was reminiscent of “a lot of great Apple things.”
So, the Woz is a big fan. But do you agree? Or do you prefer Android or iOS? What irritates you about each? Let me know in the comments below, or over on our Facebook page.
