If you’re on a network that begins with O, stand by to get your Windows Phone Mango update. If you’re on Vodafone, you may have to wait.
The new update to Microsoft’s Windows Phone software was unveiled to the public yesterday, but will be reaching phones on different networks in stages. Hopefully it won’t be a long wait, as Microsoft is making the update available to networks across the world this week.
O2 and Orange have both said they will be putting the update in your pocket as soon as the update is available. Vodafone says the update will come to the HTC 7 Trophy and LG Optimus 7 in coming weeks.
Microsoft’s clunky site listing the schedule for the update points out there’s no love for the Samsung Omnia 7, which won’t be updated yet.
The update requires you to plug your phone into your computer to start squeezing every last drop of Mango juice into your phone.
Up until now Windows Phones have been bought by about three people, but Mango makes it a much more attractive proposition. It frees Windows Phone from using Zune software, so Apple users who aren’t keen on the iPhone can join the Windows Phone massive. The true test though will be the arrival of Nokia Windows Phones later this year.
Mango adds new features that bring the software up to speed with some popular features of the rival Android and Apple iOS operating systems, such as multi-tasking and an improved browser. It also includes a social hub to show all your contacts and their social networking updates and messages in one place, as well as integration with your Xbox Live account.
