White LG Optimus 3D available for pre

Excited about the three-dimensional thrills of the LG Optimus 3D, but not so hot for its black design? Phones 4u has bagged a UK exclusive on the white model of the Android handset, although it’s not yet saying when the device will go on sale.

The retailer is taking pre-orders, though. It says the black model will be available “shortly after its UK launch”, but will only commit to “the coming months” for the white version. Both are pictured above, with the retailer’s blog having posted hands-ons.

“We’re delighted to announce that we’ll soon be offering our customers the world’s first ever 3D mobile phone in white,” says marketing director Russell Braterman. “Our customers are content creators and sharers, and the LG Optimus 3D will for the first time allow them to do what they enjoy most, but in 3D.”

Indeed. We’ll refrain from getting too excited until we know when the white model will be available, and whether Phones 4u will be bumping up the price.

The Optimus 3D is well worth getting excited about though: its 3D-capable, 4.3-inch display doesn’t require you to wear special glasses to watch video or play games in 3D, with a dedicated ‘3D Hot Key’ to switch between 2D and 3D modes.

The handset includes a 5-megapixel dual-lens camera to shoot your own 3D movies (assuming you can convince a few friends to paint themselves blue and blurt out mystical mumbo-jumbo, of course). The Optimus 3D will also tie into YouTube’s 3D videos service, to ensure you have plenty of stuff to watch.

The smart phone will come with three preloaded 3D games, and more available to buy from LG’s own Try and Buy Games Portal. Meanwhile, inside the phone lurks a 1GHz dual-core processor.
