It’s been 21 years since Vodafone first set up shop in Australia. As part of it celebration, Vodafone has announced it will offer customers free international calls to ten countries over this weekend.

The free calls start at 12.01am AEDT on Saturday October 18 and end at 11.59pm AEDT on Sunday October 19. The offer is for any standard call to either landline or mobile and the countries on offer are China, India, USA, UK, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and South Korea.

There’s no cap on call length or how many calls you make — in fact the only stipulation from Vodafone is that they need to be for personal use and adhere to the fair use policy guidelines.

In media statement announcing the offer, Vodafone CEO Iñaki Berroeta said:

“On behalf of Vodafone, I would like to thank our customers for their loyalty. We have many customers who have been with us for the majority of our 21 years in Australia.”

Berroeta noted that Roy Morgan research indicated that 40 percent of Vodafone’s customers were born overseas. “Because so many of us have friends and family living and travelling overseas, we thought this was a great way to celebrate by doing what Vodafone does best – connecting people,” he said.

Vodafone recently began rolling out its new 850MHz 4G coverage, beginning in Adelaide. According to the company it’s 4G service is on track to reach 95 percent of all metropolitan areas in Australia by the end of the year.
