Vodafone 547, 543: Built

Two budget phones that aim to furnish the masses with touchscreens and a speedy Web-browsing experience are due to burst forth from Vodafone’s womb: the 543 and 547.

The 543 (shown above) is the lower-end model. It packs Bluetooth and GPRS connectivity, but its integrated Opera Mini browser should still let users achieve decent browsing speeds. It also has a 61mm (2.4-inch) touchscreen, a 1.3-megapixel camera and an FM radio.

We’re unashamed fans of swappable covers here at CNET Towers, so we’re glad to see that the 543 comes with a range of migraine-inducing cases in the box. We’ve kindly juxtaposed the two most garish in the picture above.

The 547 (shown below) sports Bluetooth, Edge and GPRS connectivity. Like its sibling, it runs the Opera Mini browser. It also has a larger, 71mm (2.8-inch) screen, a 2-megapixel camera, and an FM radio. You’ll be able to pick it up in white, red or black when it launches this month, together with the 543.

Pricing for both of these handsets is yet to be revealed, but Vodafone’s putting plenty of emphasis on their affordability.

Today, Vodafone also confirmed the existence of its leaked 845 Android smart phone, which should see the full light of day next month.
