Virgin Mobile has spawned a series of new tariffs, including a monthly contract that gets you unlimited calls to pricey 08 numbers.
The ‘VIP’ tariff is, as the name suggests, the most expensive contract that the red-hued operator has on offer. It nets you unlimited calls, data and texts, as well as unlimited calls to numbers that start 0800, 0845, 0870 and 0808 — handy if your boiler is on the blink and you’re spending a lot of time on the phone to customer service lines.
Uswitch commented that Virgin Media was, “the UK’s first provider to offer unlimited freephone and premium rate numbers.”
That swanky VIP tariff will set you back £31 per month, unless you’re already a Virgin Media customer, in which case you only have to pay £26.
The network is also rolling out a new ‘VIP’ SIM-only contract for £15 per month that nets you unlimited calls, texts and data. If you can afford shelling out roughly £500 for a SIM-free smart phone, these rolling, one-month contracts often work out cheaper in the long run.
O2 and Tesco Mobile recently revealed new tariffs too, which break your contract into two separate sections. These contracts give you a single monthly bill that’s broken into a fee for the phone, and a fee for your minutes, texts and data.
The advantage there is that if you want to opt out of your contract quickly, you can pay off the ‘phone’ part early. That makes it cheaper to ditch a contract than it otherwise would be, so I’d be keen to see Virgin Media and others adopting this interesting new setup.
