In what’s becoming a regular occurrence, Verizon’s year-end roadmap has apparently found its way online, according to Phone Arena, tipping the Big Red’s smartphone plans.
It should come as no surprise that there’s a handful of Android on the horizon, including devices from no fewer than six hardware makers. Should the leaked details prove true, Verizon will soon have a little something for everyone.
First out of the gate will be the Samsung Stratosphere 2, which has been rumored to have a Super AMOLED Plus display, a sliding QWERTY keyboard, an 8-megapixel camera, and a dual-core Snapdragon S4 chipset. There’s no indication which version of Android we’re looking at; however, I’d expect 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. According to PhoneArena’s source, the Samsung phone will land before September is out.
Arriving just a few weeks later, an LG Spectrum 2 is listed with an “early October” window. Said to be a Verizon take on the LG Optimus LTE II, this smartphone will presumably run Android 4.0 and feature a 4.7-inch display, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, an 8-megapixel camera, NFC support, and a 2,150mAh battery.
Next up is the much-ballyhooed 5-inch HTC device known in circles as the Droid Incredible X. As a refresher, this guy is expected to have a 480ppi display with a 1,920×1,080-pixel HD resolution, 1.5GB RAM, and 16GB storage. Look for this one to arrive around November.
Somewhere in the middle of all of this, Verizon is expected to release the Droid Razr HD and its nearly identical counterpart, the Droid Razr Maxx HD. As far as Phone Arena’s tipster goes, these come with the loose “Q4” time frame. Were I a gambling man, I’d place money on some time before Black Friday.
A successor to the Pantech Breakout is also listed on the roadmap, but there’s no indication as to when it will arrive. With no hardware details to speak of yet, the only thing we have to go on right now is its name, the Pantech Perception.
Rounding things out, Verizon is expected to offer a pair of ZTE tablets in the home stretch of 2012, one being a 7-incher and the other being a 10-inch slate. Their names, pricing, and release details are still a mystery. What’s more, the source suggests that the larger model may have been scrapped altogether.
Looking just at Android, Verizon customers will have no shortage of options this fall as they look for new smartphones. Toss in some Windows Phone 8 stuff and that something called the iPhone 5 and it almost becomes paralyzing. Of course, there’s always the potential that we’ll see a new Nexus device thrown in for good measure as well. Which one of these do you have your eye on?
