Verizon Wireless is bringing back its double-data promotion, offering heavy bandwidth users a potential new home.
Starting Friday, new customers or existing ones signing a new contract can get double the amount of capacity–4 gigabytes–when they purchase a 4G LTE smartphones and sign up for a $30 data plan and accompanying voice and text message plans.

The plan is part of a number of promotions Verizon is offering to customers in a bid to goose sales. The first quarter often sees a letdown in sales for wireless carriers, particularly after the frenetic pace of sales during the holiday period. Verizon has been particularly aggressive in pushing its 4G LTE products.
Verizon will also begin selling the Motorola Droid 4 on Friday, which is eligible for the double-data promotion.
The carrier is offering a buy one, get one free, promotion for the Droid Razr or Droid Razr Maxx. Buy one device, and get one of the same value for free, an offer the company hopes will resonate with customers ahead of Valentine’s Day the following week.
Verizon is also attempting to spur further upgrades by offering existing basic phone customers to come in and trade their phone for an in-store $30 gift card. Further upgrades mean more customers paying higher bills, resulting in higher revenue for the company.
The company has also been pushing sales of 4G LTE tablets, which haven’t been so successful. The carrier is offering a $100 off any 4G tablet with the purchase of any basic phone or smartphone.
But given the high price for many of those tablets and their data plans, it’s unclear if customers would be lured in by that offer.
