Verizon might not be entering the Canadian market as soon as expected.
The company has decided to put off acquiring Canada-based wireless carriers Wind and Mobilicity, The Globe and Mail is reporting, citing people who claim to have knowledge of its plans. Verizon, which was reportedly looking to acquire the companies this year, has decided to wait to see how it fares in the wireless spectrum auction Canada is holding in January, the Globe and Mail claims.
Verizon has been looking to make its way to the Canadian market for quite some time, according to reports. However, the company would like to acquire some spectrum to bolster its chances of effectively competing in the market. If it doesn’t participate in the auction or doesn’t get what it wants, it could table the idea to go north, according to the report.
Verizon has competed in the Canadian market before: until 2004, it was a major shareholder in carrier Telus Corp.
