Telstra and Samsung have today announced the availability of Australia’s first 4G tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9.
Telstra will offer a 16GB version of the tablet outright for AU$720, and will soon range a 32GB model for AU$840. Customers can also pay off the cost of the tablet over the course of a 24-month contract, starting from AU$49 per month with 1GB of data, up to AU$99 per month with a generous 15GB of data.
The Galaxy Tab is Telstra’s first Samsung tablet in its range, but it’s the fourth to launch in Australia to date. The 8.9-inch variant appears to add much to the established formula for these devices besides 4G connectivity. The tablet runs on Android 3.2 with Samsung’s TouchWiz interface modifications, although its faster 1.5GHz processor may make the experience of using the tablet a little smoother than on the previously released Galaxy Tab 10.1.
