Path, Flipboard are coming to the Lumia 1020

At the “Zoom Reinvented” event Thursday, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop announced that Flipboard, Path, Vine, and Hipstamatic are coming to the Lumia 1020, the first Windows Phone 8 device to get these apps. Yelp and Foursquare are also updating their apps to utilize the Lumia’s impressive 41-megapixel camera to help users take and share better photos.

All of the apps are taking advantage of a new software development kit (SDK) from Nokia that gives developers access to the 1020’s camera and the new Procamera app for capturing images.

Path, a social network for close friends and family, offers photo filters on its Android and iOS apps. Path is bring 50 filters, plus the ability to share photos to friends on Path and other connected social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, to the Lumia 1020.

Social news magazine Flipboard will also be available on the Lumia 1020 when the phone launches. The app, already popular on Android and iOS, lets you get news and blog posts from your favorite Web sites, view your Facebook feed, and explore magazines organized by topics, such as gardening or beauty.

Not long after making its way to Android, Twitter-owned video app Vine will come to Windows Phone 8 on the Lumia, according to Nokia’s release. The app lets you record 6-second videos and share them to Twitter.

Hipstamatic is an Instagram competitor that can add photo filters to images and share them with others. Elop pointed out that while there’s no Instagram app for the Lumia or any other Windows phone, you can share Hipstamatic photos to Twitter and Facebook with the new app.

Yelp and Foursquare, both of which are already in the Windows app store, are updating their apps with Nokia’s new SDK to capture and share photos from the 1020’s camera. With the new apps, you’ll be able to take superdetailed photos of a delicious meal or a new shop and share it with your Yelp reviews or Foursquare check-ins.
