Sydney commuters who are used to reception blackspots when travelling the City Circle tunnel line will find themselves pleasantly surprised, according to AAP.

The NSW government has worked with Telstra, Optus and Vodafone to add an additional 10km of cable to the rail area’s network infrastructure, ensuring that mobile and mobile data reception stays on.

“The lack of coverage in our CBD tunnels has been an ongoing concern for customers over many years, and quite frankly, an embarrassment for our city,” Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian told AAP.

The minister said that she expected around 400,000 commuters to benefit from the upgrade. The next step will be to upgrade the Eastern Suburbs line, with 18km of cable being installed between Bondi Junction and Erskineville.
