Sony’s latest flagship phone was announced just a few days ago, and now we have a UK price and release date. The Xperia Z2 will touch down on 1 April, and will cost £544.98 SIM free from Unlocked Mobiles.
Unlocked Mobiles is throwing in a few goodies as well. You’ll get a free SRS-BTM8 speaker worth £79.99, noise-cancelling headphones worth £20, and “content” worth £100.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 was also priced up this week, with Unlocked Mobiles whipping out its pricing gun and slapping on a tag of £599.98. The Samsung flagship will go on sale on 11 April.
The Xperia Z2 is the follow-up to the Z1, which was a fine phone. The Z2 is very similar indeed to its predecessor — it’s waterproof, looks almost identical, and has the same 20.7-megapixel camera. But there are some tweaks. Sony has made the screen slightly bigger, at 5.2 inches, and has made it ship with Android KitKat. It’s also bunged in a slightly faster chip (at 2.3GHz), and made it record video in 4K.
So, while there may not be that many changes, they’re all welcome.
The Xperia Z2 will go head to head with Samsung’s Galaxy S5, as well as HTC’s next flagship, the New HTC One. Not much is known about what HTC has up its sleeve, but it has revealed the name of the device. It’s holding an event on 25 March where it’ll reveal the full details, so we’ll know more then.
