Sony Xperia Z1 Mini leak

Is it small, or far away? No, it’s not perspective playing tricks on your eyes — the smaller phone pictured above is a mini version of the waterproof Sony Xperia Z1 Android smart phone.

The Z1 may be leak-proof, but it’s not immune to leaked photos — and if this snap is to be believed, then Sony is preparing an Xperia Z1 Mini with the same 20.7-megapixel camera downsized into a sawn-off body.

According to Chinese site Digi-Wo and XperiaBlog, the Z1 Mini sits behind a 4.3-inch 720p screen, instead of the Z1’s 5-inch 1080p expanse.

The Z1 Mini — or whatever it’s called — shares the full-fat Z1’s glass case and silver accents, with rumours of the same Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM under the bonnet. Differences are reported to include lower memory, with the Mini version said to pack 8GB rather than 16GB.

Fingers crossed it’s waterproof like the Z1. Cleverly, unlike many waterproof phones that include a cap on the headphone jack, the Z1 is waterproof inside the headphone socket — so you don’t have to prise off a cap every time you want to enjoy some choons.

The Z1, previously rumoured to be codenamed the Honami, was unveiled at technology playground IFA 2013 last week, and we were there to cover it in mucky fingerprints right from the off. Hit play below to see the Z1 in action:
