Sony Xperia S to get Ice Cream Sandwich late May, early June

The Sony Xperia S should be in line to receive a mouthful of refreshing Ice Cream Sandwich in late May or early June, according to a post from Sony on its support forums, Pocketnow reports.

Writing in response to a previous poster, a member of Sony’s support team wrote, “Xperia S is planned to get ICS somewhere around late May/early June.”

The comment continues, “That’s what’s been said and that’s still what we’re sticking to. Any other dates (such as “June/July”) is just speculation.”

Xperia S owners slavering for the latest edition of Android should only have a few weeks to wait, then. That’s good news, as one of the problems with the Japanese company’s latest flagship was that it launched with an out-of-date version of Google’s robot-powered operating system.

Don’t be surprised if you don’t see the new software arriving on your Xperia S immediately — Sony says, “The roll out is, as always, gradual and will not happen over night for all phones. Some phones might get the update in late May whilst other[s] will get in mid-June etc.”

If you’re keen to see what Android 4.0 will look like on your Xperia S, this story contains a clip showing a beta version of the software.

Although Sony’s vowed to imbue all its 2011 Xperia smart phones with Android 4.0, the company has said that customers may actually be better sticking with Android 2.3 Gingerbread — Sony’s proud of the “extreme stability” that its earlier edition offers.
