The Carphone Warehouse has updated its expected release date for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro to October. That’s a full five months after the Android phone was initially supposed to be available.
We’re not sure what troubles have befallen the poor Xperia Pro, but it’s sure taking its time to arrive in our sweaty hands. The Pro was originally supposed to launch in June, but that date was quickly pushed back to July, for unknown reasons. While Sony Ericsson’s website still lists the Pro’s release date as July, the Carphone Warehouse has updated its pre-order page with an October launch date.
We were reasonably impressed with the Pro when we saw it in February. Its 3.7-inch touchscreen seemed bright and responsive and, at only 140g, it didn’t pin us to the ground. The slide-out Qwerty keyboard felt well built and easy to use too. If you’re a BlackBerry fanatic looking to sample Android’s delights, we reckon you’ll be right at home with the Pro.
There’s a 1GHz Snapdragon processor inside the Pro, ensuring the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system runs smoothly. Gingerbread offers Flash support in the browser so you can watch the majority of online videos on the Pro.
If you’re absolutely desperate for an Android phone with a slide-out Qwerty keyboard, HTC’s Desire Z is available now. The Xperia Pro has a slightly more powerful chip, though, so it could be worth holding out for. Plus, if it gets pushed back any further, you could just ask for it for Christmas.
Update: Sony Ericsson has told us that the Pro will indeed be delayed until the fourth quarter of this year, due to supply-chain issues following the earthquake in Japan.
