No sooner do we get our sticky fingers all over Sony Ericsson’s new shiny mobile offerings than we’re treated to the news that that Orange and T-Mobile — the Everything Everywhere boys — are to be offering the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, the Arc and the Neo from April. Three Xperia cheers!
If you’ve been absent from our recent Mobile World Congress coverage and need some catching up (we don’t blame you, there’s an awful lot of it), the Xperia Play — which is also coming to Three in April — has a powerful core, encased within a 4-inch screen and features nifty slide-out PSP-style controls. With access to the PlayStation Suite games download store, this phone is an out and out gamer’s handset.
The Xperia Arc is wafer-thin, but with curves to die for. The Arc has a 4.2-inch TFT LCD screen powered by Sony’s Bravia tech, which aims to give you optimum colour, contrast, noise-eradication and sharpness. The Arc also packs a powerful 8.1-megapixel camera on the back, with a handy LED photo light and Sony’s Exmor R CMOS sensor.
The third offering is the Xperia Neo, which seems to be more camera than phone. Son Eric has a strong history of offering powerful camera-phones and the Neo is no exception. It sports the same 8.1-megapixel camera and Exmor R CMOS sensor as its Arc sister, but also provides an f/2.4 lens that promises stunning photos even in low-light situations that can be viewed in all their glory on your HDTV via the HDMI port found on the top of the device.
Both networks will “range” (what a hideous verbing that is — please stop) all three devices from April on both networks, with Orange offering the Xperia Arc in an exclusive black version.
Neither company were able to offer any word on pricing yet, but we don’t imagine any of these sleek new handsets will come too cheap.
