If neither of these handsets sound familiar, then don’t worry. The Xperia S seems to be the Xperia Arc HD (or LT26i ‘Nozomi’) handset that leaked a while ago, while the Xperia Ion is a new one on us too.
Both are rumoured to be making an appearance at CES, Pocketnow reports. They may come under the Sony name too, which would be the first time since the company announced it was buying out Ericsson from the partnership.
Whatever the flagship handset turns out to be called (Xperia S, Arc HD, Nozomi, or none of the above), it’s bound to have some pretty stellar specs. We’re expecting a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a 4.3-inch screen with a 720×1,280-pixel resolution and a 12-megapixel camera that’s capable of recording in 720p HD. Very nice indeed.
The Ion remains more of a mystery. It doesn’t even seem to be the 13-megapixel LT28at that leaked a while ago. Apparently the code is rumoured to be the LT29i Hayabusa, and it’ll look similar to the Xperia Arc and Arc S but will feature specs closer to the Xperia S. With specs this great, we’re not complaining.
A few days ago, Sony Ericsson posted four teaser pictures on its Facebook page of what look like the Xperia S though it’s bearing the legend ‘HD’ on its back, so we’re not completely sold on the Xperia S name yet. The snaps show the camera button, camera lens, micro-USB port and on-screen toggle to flick between stills and video.
Rumours abound that the Xperia S will only run Android Gingerbread, rather than Ice Cream Sandwich though. Say it ain’t so, Sony Ericsson.
